Chapel Renovation

In 2006, the Trustees of Graceland Cemetery, in keeping with its dedication to the historical importance of the Cemetery and its buildings, selected the Chicago architectural firm of Depree Bickford Associates to create and implement a plan to restore and renovate the Cemetery’s chapel. The firm is returning it to its original size and “Arts and Crafts” style.

The restoration and renovation, scheduled for completion in 2009, will include the addition of 500 indoor, hand-carved niches for the final resting place of cremated remains. In addition, the newly reclaimed landscape, replacing two later additions, will accommodate new in-ground burials and garden columbarium walls complementing the midwestern red granite of the chapel.

The restoration is scheduled for completion in 2009.
